About Me

Hi, my name is Bernice and I am a person-centred counsellor who is an accredited and registered member of the BACP.

When I left school, I trained for two years to become a Nursery-nurse; I worked in a variety of day nurseries.

Many years later I went back to college where I trained to be a CSW ( Communication Support Worker for the Deaf); I worked in Further education colleges.

After my last child was born, I was looking at courses at my local further education centre and signed up for the course ‘An Introduction to Counselling’. At the same time, I trained as a telephone volunteer for a drugs helpline, where I worked for two years.

The course wetted my appetite and I was keen to continue learning. I went on to successfully complete the Certificate in Counselling Skills and the Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling at the City Lit in Covent Garden.

I have gone on to successfully complete an Advanced Post Diploma Certificate course in couples/family counselling with the Counselling Works in Milton Keynes, who specialise in Person-centred training

I am currently working for a bereavement charity alongside my private practice.

Prior to this I worked with people who were alcohol dependent or in recovery and female survivors of domestic abuse.

The common thread for me in my private and professional life has been my love and interest in people. My natural way of being together with my life’s experiences has enabled me to work with warmth, care and compassion.
